The L. W. Seecamp Corporation manufactures this
pistol that resembles the European CZ 45 from
years ago. It's available in the LWS32, and
LWS 380 Models. Hand fitted, accurate, and
designed for close quarters self-protection.
Caution
The grip shown is exactly like the factory pattern.
It is not "smooth" but has the fine texture pattern just
like Seecamp factory grips. All the grips I make are
made in molds, so they are exactly like the pictures.
The grips, as shipped, have flat backs. You need to
make shallow relief cuts with a Dremel or other rotary
bit tool, to clear the frame and operating controls. However,
the option for having screw mount hardware installed is
up to you. You may wish to use your own original hardware
instead. Or you can select to have a 2-56 universal screw
kit installed (cut the screw to length to fit your gun).
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would consider the difficulty level
for this kit to be about a 5. It takes some slow, careful
work with a Dremel to make shallow clearances in the back
of the grip. Don't order if you don't feel fairly competent
to do the work. Take your original grips off and look at
the back of them. This is how you will want to make the
new, flat-backed grips look after you are done. Decide if
you want to do that before you order. It's not "hard", but
it does require a little patience and a steady hand.
The original grips also have small projecting "pins" molded
in the back, which fit into holes in the frame. You can easily
locate and add pins to the back of these grips, made of small
brass brads cut off and press fitted into slightly smaller holes
made in the back of the grip with a drill bit (don't drill
through -- just turn the bit by hand to make a hole about 3/4
of the way through). To locate the holes, put a toothpick or
other temporary place marker in the holes in the gun frame, paint
the end with a Magic Marker pen, and press the grip against the
frame to transfer a dot to the back of the grip.
Many people don't install pins and seem to have no problem,
but I suspect that the pins help to keep the grip snug and
prevent it from turning about the single mounting screw.
The grips are too thin for mounting most medallions. Some of
the smaller ones such as the small star or gold cross would
work. The material used is quite strong (3100 psi tensile
strength) so that it will withstand more abuse than the
average thermo-setting plastic factory grip. Tombstone Grips
are made of a polyurethane epoxy resin, a polymer that cures
rather than melts and sets, so that it will withstand over
350-degrees F (if your car trunk gets up to 250-degrees, you
can still be assured the grips won't warp or melt if you
have the gun locked up inside!).
