This set of staghorn style grips was molded directly from
an early replacement grip set made during the 1960's. Although
the hole spacing is set up for the Pre-72 Mark I and Standard
models, I have a different pattern of staghorn grip that
is the same size as the Mark II and Mark III grips in
height and width, and can be ordered with the hole pattern
for Pre-72 Standard or Mark I, Post-72 Standard or Mark I,
Mark II, or Mark III models. All of these 22 autos can
use the same physical size of grip, but the hole location
is different for the various models (Mark II and Mark III
are identical except for a clearance notch for the left-side
magazine release button on Mark IIIs).
The Ruger Universal Stag Horn 22 Auto grips are ordered
first by mold number, like all my grips, and then you
select the specific gun model so I can make the proper
hole pattern and put the magazine clearance on the proper
grip panel (Mark II and III use the left panel, Mark I
and Standard models use the right panel for the curved
clearance groove on the back of the grip). Unless you
specifically want the shorter, early style grips shown
here, it is usually better to get the Ruger Universal
Staghorn 22 Auto grip and just select the proper model
of gun on that single grip listing.
The grips shown here fit Ruger Mark I models made before 1972. If you don't
know when yours was made, go to the Ruger website and
type in the serial number.
These are usually ready to fit onto your gun with little
or no sanding. Mounting holes are drilled, no hardware is supplied.
Use the existing screws.
Colors and medallions are offered but are not recommended; usually,
the stag horn rip is plenty by itself. However, you can choose natural
or aged ivory for the background color with good results. Horn and ivory
have a lot in common.
For Mark I and Standard Models made before 1971, the magazine
follower button is on the right. The bottom hole on the
right panel is 0.8 inches above the bottom of the grip.
On guns made in 1971 and later, the magazine follower
button is on the left, and the bottom hole center is 0.8 inches
above the grip bottom on the right panel.
The bottom hole in Pre-71 grips on the left panel is 0.4
inches above the bottom of the grip. On the Post-71 (and those
made in 1971) grips, the right panel has the bottom hole
0.4 inches above the base. The Mark II grips have cut-outs
at the top for the bolt release lever and safety lever,
and have the same bottom hole spacing on the right and
left grips as the post-71 Mark I. Mark III grips are the
same as Mark II except for the magazine release button
notch in the left grip.
